Creative Card Crew #16 DT Card

The theme for our 16th challenge at The Creative Card Crew is On the Beach/Under the Sea.  We are being sponsored by Michelle Perkett Studio and we have a $10 gift for one lucky entrant to spend in Michelle's fabulous store

I have chosen to use Serena, just one of Michelle's mermaids

I have kept the design of the card quite simple as I didn't want to detract from the image.  I edged the papers with a green ink pad

I did stamp the sentiment direct on the card but there must have been a bit of fluff/fibres on the ink pad which left a smudge.  I stamped it again on another piece of the same paper and cut it out using a scalloped die.  I attached it with dsst  as I wanted it to be flat on the surface of the card.

I added glitter to the background and painted the image with Glossy Accents to make her look wet.  When it was dry I added more Glossy Accents to the flowers to give a raised finish and added drops to each of the scallops on the sentiment panel

Materials used

Serena digi stamp from Michelle Perkett Studio
Papers from stash
Memento ink pad
Dream stamp from Debbie Moore
Glossy Accents
Jones Tones holographic glitter
Pinflair 3D gel

Hello Blogland!

Firstly, welcome to my new follower, Sheena.

I've just returned from a weeks holiday and have spent today looking at all your blogs.  Boy have you all been busy!! I haven't made any comments on your blogs as I don't think that I'd get through them all if I started to.  So here's a big WELL DONE!! to all of you :o)

I'm hoping to be able to get back into my routine as regards to my card making but with hubby around for another week I don't think that I'll get too many cards made.

After making the knitting/craft bag before I went away, I think I've caught the sewing bug!    There are a few bags in the bookazine that I bought that I want to make so I've bought some fabric and finishings to make two of them.  Maybe I'll get one of them made this week.  There is a fabulous fabric shop in Scarborough (UK) and I could have bought lots and lots of it.  The staff, and the customers, were so helpful while I was trying to decide on the fabric to use.

Off now to see how my Facebook friends have managed without me lol

Creative Card crew challenge #15 DT card

Our challenge this time is to see you use black cardstock.  Our sponsor for this challenge is the fabulous Kenny K Downloads  where you can see lots of top designs from cute critters to saucy sirens lol  I have chosen to use the Jasmine digi stamp on my card

You can check out my fellow teamies designs by looking on their blogs listed in my sidebar.  And now for my card

I decided to do this as a DL card, with the image being long and narrow, and layered it up with black and white papers and black card

This time I coloured in quite muted tones as brighter tones didn't suit the business of the backing papers.  I've also added a strip of a die cut border to the left of the image panel

As with the colours, a fancier font didn't work at all with the papers so my ever faithful plain and bold birthday stamp was used again.  All the papers and the white cardstock were inked with black for definition

Materials used

Jasmine digi stamp from Kenny K Downloads
Black cardstock
Papermania Liquorice Capsule Collection papers
Spellbinder's Edgeabilities die
Sentiment stamp from a Create and Craft kit
Memento ink pad
Crop-a-Dile Corner Chomper
3D foam pads

Stepping Stones

My aim is to support various charities with my crafting either monetary or in the donation of cards and gifts that can be sold to raise funds.  I have put together a collection of 60+ cards which I will be taking with me when we go on our holidays to Scarborough and will be donating them to Stepping Stones Ministries who are doing a fantastic job in caring for young girls and boys in India.  Please take a look at the website to see what they do

Just some of the cards I am taking which have been on my blog as challenge entries

Word Art Wednesday #35 part two!

I've actually been able to do two pages in my Word Art Wednesday journal this week.  This time I am using this week's word art which is provided free for you to use as you wish

The gingham paper is from a Crafter's Companion cd and all the others are from HOTP and edged with a Memento ink pad

The image is a Stickeroo from Penny Black.  I bought quite a few different panels a while back and I've only used a couple of images.  They're one of those items that you forget about and, usually, find them when looking for something else!  The bible verse was printed onto Safmat and closely cut around it to make it into a transparent sticker

Word Art Wednesday #35

Word Art Wednesday  always supply a free scriptural or inspirational quote which you are free to download and use in any project that you wish.  To enter the challenge there is no need to use the word art provided as long as the entry is positive and uplifting.  This weeks word art is Deuteronomy 6:5,  however, the word art that I have used is last week's Jeremiah 29:11 which is one of my favourite verses.  I really wanted to do a layout for it but was unable to enter the challenge last week

I used oddments of papers to create the background

I then over-stamped it with flourishes and script

I placed the verse more or less centrally on the page

I added a tag which I had taken from a birthday card that I had received and a ribbon that was taken from some gift packaging

Materials used

Papers from Crafty Individuals Springtime 6x6 paper stack
Crafty Individuals flourish stamps CI-235
Inkylicious tiny script stamp
Memento ink pads
Computer generated word art on Letraset Safmat Film
Up-cycled tag and ribbons

It's Still Summer

Another summer card for a few challenges.  One of the challenges is to use a colour that reminds you of summer.  There are lots of summery colours that I love so I thought that I would ask my daughter,26, what colour she would pick and straight away she said orange.  I said that orange is an autumn colour but she said that was more of a rusty orange and not the bright orange that she wanted. After her choosing the paper and the markers for the flowers I thought that it would be too much but it turned out ok in the end.  Phew!!  So the challenges are

Squigglefly #26  a colour that reminds you of summer

Papertake Weekly  Anything goes

Crafty Sentiments Designs  Summertime

Catch the Bug  Summer

Penny Black and More  Summer Blooms

Allsorts #161  In bloom

I've used the same layout as I did for yesterday's card.  The paper was just a white and orange gingham but because of the size of the squares it was too open.  I used a ProMarker with a fine nib and drew lines to cut the the white squares into 4 and I think that it's much better

A close up of the flowers to show the dimension and the shading

A view of the complete topper

I very lightly inked the edges of the ribbon but it doesn't show up so good in the photo

Materials used

Blooms digi stamp from Squigglefly
Paper from Polka Doodles
Classic and scalloped Nestabilities dies
Memento ink pad
3D gel from Pinflair
Peeloff sentiment

It's Summertime!

Now that hubby is back at work I'll have to get myself back into the routine of making one card a day. The past couple of days have been spent on a sewing project which is on my blog HERE

The challenges for today's card are

Paper Take Weekly   Anything goes

Paper Pretties Monday challenge #46   Summer

Paper Pretties Wednesday challenge #213  a card for an occasion

Crafty Sentiments Designs  Summertime

Whimsy Stamps challenge #46  anything goes

Catch the Bug   summer

I edged the paper with an ink pad making the shading deeper on the lefthand side and bottom which gives a more dimensional look to it

With the sketchy design of the stamp there is no need to be accurate with the colouring.  It gives an impression of a watercolour finish to it

I've no idea who the manufacturer of the die is for the flowers on the side border as it was in a bundle of diecuts from a friend.  It wasn't the right colour so I went over it with a Tim Holtz ink pad in Dusty Concorde

Materials used

Beach huts stamp by Michael Powell
Sentiment from Crafty Individuals
Memento ink pad
Tim Holtz Distress ink pad
Promarkers and Flexmarkers
Woodware Paper Trimmer with a deckle blade
Paper from a Crafter's Companion cd
3D foam pads
Die cut border

ABC Christmas M for.......

The challenge at ABC Christmas is M for Make a gift

I  Last year I bought some fabric with the intention of starting a quilt but, as usually happens with my good intentions, I have never got round to starting it.  Another thing that I've wanted to do is make bags which is why I bought the Bags, Beads and Brooches bookazine from Traplet Publications.

On the front cover there is a craft/knitting bag which I thought I would make for a friend for her Christmas present.  The instructions say to use 8 different fabrics but I only used four plus the lining. I'm that pleased with it I'm going to make one for myself but will buy the fabric purposely for it.  There are a couple of other bags that I would love to do and , who knows, I might actually do them lol

I've put some of my knitting and bits and bobs into it to pad it out for the photos.  I should have taken some work in progress photos to show that I had made it myself lol

I have left the flat pocket as one to make a place for patterns and maybe needles

This pocket I divided into three

There is an elasticated strip on one side which I've stitched to make sections for holding some items

The two blue end pockets are gathered with elastic for bulkier items
It is quite big with the base being 35cm x 22cm

I hope that you like it too

Creative Card Crew #14 DT card

Welcome to the latest challenge at The Creative Card Crew where would like to see lots of pearls and swirls

Our sponsor for this challenge is Simon Says Stamp and they are giving one lucky challenger a gift voucher worth $20 to spend in their store.  Lots to choose from so I'm sure everyone's wish list would come to a lot more than $20 :o)

Check out the DT blogs to see their creations for this challenge.  Now to my card

To me, pearls and swirls conjure up romance and weddings.  The embossing folder and the stamp have a very similar design so have worked well together on this card

I used ivory satin and blue chiffon ribbons tied with a knot.  I didn't want to make life difficult for myself trying to tie two ribbons together in a bow!  The embossing powder is pearl silver

A silver peel off sentiment and some heart shaped pearls finish the card nicely

Materials used

Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirls embossing folder
Heart Swirls stamp from Dimension Stamps
Versamark ink pad
Pearl Silver embossing powder from The Oak House Studio
Pearl hearts from Mad About Cards
Peeloff from Anita's
Ivory and blue ribbons from stash
3D foam pads

Flexmarkers, Bargain!

Just a quick post to let you know where to get Flexmarkers really cheap.  I've ordered them from Create and Craft  You need to use the item number 237317 and it lists the four individual sets at £7.49 each set.  They are also listed separately with their own item numbers at £14.99 The link that I've put on should take you straight to the right item.

Seeing them at such a bargain price (plus I got my 10% discount as a C&C member) pushed me into buying sets 2, 3 and four to go with the set 1 that I bought a couple of weeks ago to try them.

Don't shout at me if you feel the need to part with some pennies lol but I couldn't not tell all my blogging pals where a bargain is to be had
