Over at 2012 Christmas Card Challenge the challenge is to add bling to your card

I used heart shaped gems for the outer circles of the snowflake and round ones for the centres

The cracked ice pattern on the silver card adds extra dimension

Materials used

I think that the black and white paper is from DCWV but I may be wrong

Catch the Bug Colour challenge

The challenge at Catch the Bug is to create a project using the photo as inspiration

I thought that this DP was perfect for the challenge

I stamped the large letters onto another piece of paper, cut them out and stuck them to the card using Pinflair Gel then applied the Glossy Accents

I cut out the flourish and the flower from a piece of the waste after covering the front of the card.  Perfect for that empty corner and added Glossy Accents to the flower

Materials used

Stamps from Dimension Stamps.  The set includes the full alphabet in upper case and there is an additional set which has the words without the first letter, appy irthday etc A really useful set to have

Background paper from HOTP
Forever Friends paper for the letters

Memento ink pad
Glossy Accents
Pinflair 3D gel

Allsorts challenge #156

The challenge this week over at Allsorts is to make a birthday card for someone special

All of the components, apart from the ribbon and gold backing card, come from a Hunkydory Delights of Tuscany kit.  It is a very luxurious kit, one that I keep for special people :o)

I used the Cuttlebug embossing folders Swiss Dots and Stylised Flowers on the background and covered the join with the border

I used Pinflair 3D Gel on the pyramage layers of the topper

Less is More #69

The Less is More challenge #69 is to use a shaped card.
I am also entering it into

Squigglefly #21 a CAS card

Crafty Sentiments Designs anything goes

To create my card blank I used the largest die in my Nestabilities Blossom set making sure that the folded edge of the card fell inside the die to create the hinge.  I then cut the shape again to use as the front of the card

I folded the front of the card blank in half parallel to the fold and adhered the single shape to the outer half.  I then cut three more shapes using yellow paper for the largest one and stamped the middle size with the flower.  I used my Promarkers to colour the flower

To finish the card I attached the smallest of the shapes with 3d gel to form the stopper for the easel card.  I topped it with a stamped butterfly which I had glittered using glitter glue

The overall size of the card is 9.5cm, making this a really cute little card
Materials used

Blossom Nestabilities dies
Butterfly and flower stamps from Craft Stamper
Sentiment Woodware Tiny Phrases
Memento ink pad
Promarkers
Pinflair 3D gel

Play Date Cafe Challenge #133

Play Date Cafe Challenge #133  this week is taken from this photo

I made a card last week with this stamp which I could have used for this challenge but I had already posted the photo on my blog.  This is using a different background paper and includes another, darker blue and is, I think, more masculine in design

I edged the paper and topper with red for definition and used my Promarkers with fine nibs

Materials used

Papermania stamp
Nestabilities Label #8
Promarkers with fine nibs
3D foam pads
Memento inks
Card Candi from Craftwork Cards
Paper from stash

Is It Vintage or Shabby Chic?

The challenge at Whimsy Stamps #40 vintage/shabby chic and I'm also entering this card into the following challenges

Stampin' Sisters in Christ #141 where we're encouraged to do something that we are "afraid" of.  This card definitely falls into this category.  I love this style of card but I'm never comfortable with my efforts

Divas by Design #36 fabulous flourishes

Crafty Creations challenge #171 pastels, pearls and lace

As this is totally outside my comfort zone I can see lots of things that don't look right to me!  Mainly the size of the pearls around the scallop edge.  I originally used Liquid Pearls but I still can't get them uniform in size and they're more like little volcanoes than domes.  It was a good job that I had another piece of paper to cut the scallop part of the design.  The pearls I've used are too big but as it's not something that I would use much I don't have a great collection to choose from.  I edged all the papers with ink for definition

I gathered the lace to edge the topper and also used it with ribbon to create the bow.  I stamped the sentiment on to parchment.  I didn't have any of the swirls and flourishes that you can buy already attached to adhesive so used this fine strand or pearls.  It was quite time consuming to arrange and glue them into position lol

I cut the corner details from another sheet of paper and raised them up to add more dimension

Materials used

Webster's Pages 6x6 papers
Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads
Stamp from a QVC set
Versafine Vintage Sepia ink pad
Pinflair 3D Gel
Glossy Accents - used to adhere the pearls and pearl strand
Lace and ribbon from stash

Word Art Wednesday #29

Some of you may know that due to my arthritis and the medications that I take I don't get much sleep, 6 hours is a lie in lol  I went to bed on Thursday night about midnight, which is about my normal time, and read for a while in the hope that I would drop off.  I suddenly could see in my mind exactly what I wanted to do for this challenge.  I put my book away and turned out the light but still couldn't sleep.  I ended up getting out of bed and sneaking to my craft room about 3am.  It's amazing how much noise crafting creates lol, trying to open cupboards and drawers quietly just doesn't work!  Anyway my page came to life exactly how I wanted it to look and it even includes hand drawn elements which I'm really pleased with.  I feel that this is what an art journal should be like and, hopefully, I'll be able to do more pages like this. I went back to bed about 4am, just in time to hear the start of the dawn chorus! I eventually fell asleep after 4.30am

Let me know what you think :o)

Word Art Wednesday #29

I have used the free word art provided by Word Art Wednesday although it is not necessary.  Any scriptural or inspirational quotation is allowed

I had already printed the Bible verse on to Safmat ready to be placed on the page after it was finished.  I'm pleased with all the little hearts

I stamped a few trees to break up the space on that side.  I had drawn the figure onto scrap paper, cut it out and then placed on the page before I inked the background.  I then removed the paper image and coloured the white parts and drew around it to make the figure adding white gel pen to highlight parts of the page

Materials used

My handmade journal
Tim Holtz Distress Inks
Promarkers with fine nibs
White gel pen
Tree stamps from Dimension Stamps
Grasses from Inkylicious
Letraset Safmat

A Wonderful Time

We have had a wonderful 2 days with Michael, Aisling and our beautiful granddaughter, Bronwyne. We've been able to do all the lovely things that grannies and grandpas do but, sadly, they're going back home tomorrow.  Bronwyne changes so much between the times that we see her.  She is such a pleasant child considering that her routine has completely  disappeared!  She is a little dare devil with a wicked sense of humour too.  At 10 months old she wants the swing to go higher and higher, while I have a nervous breakdown telling Michael not to push her any higher, and she loves going on slides

Red, White and Blue

We've had a delightful couple of hours earlier this evening with our Granddaughter.  We haven't seen her since February so we can really see the difference in her.  Granny's beef casserole got the Bronwyne seal of approval, she ate all her own and then helped Mummy and Daddy to finish theirs lol  They're here until Sunday morning so should be spending plenty of time with them in between their visits to family and friends.  Great Granddad can't wait to see Bronwyne, he's so proud of her.  We haven't told him that she's crawling now so he'll get a nice surprise

On to my card, I'm entering it into the following challenges

Papertake Weekly where the challenge is to use your own national colours so I've used red, white and blue, with a little bit of yellow finding its way into the design

Allsorts #155 buttons and bows

Paper Pretties Wednesday challenge #207  bold and bright

I love Promarkers #118 to use die cuts

I bought this stamp when I went to the stamp show at Port Sunlight.  I love the boldness of the design so will be keeping my eyes peeled for some similar ones

I stamped it onto the same snow white linen card that I used yesterday

Pleased with my bow, I'm not usually that good lol

Less is More #68

What's happening?!!!  I've made my card for this challenge and it's only the very early hours of Wednesday lol

The challenge at Less is More #68 is for a card for a baby or child

It's the first time that I've used this stamp and I'm quite taken with it.  Will definitely use it again, if required

I edged the two mats with a Memento ink pad

He looks quite cheeky!

Love the sentiment stamp and I was able to use some of my teddy ribbon

Materials used

Buttons Galore.....

....... is the challenge over at The Pink Elephant #149

I'm also entering it into the challenge at Allsorts #155  for buttons and bows although I haven't got any bows on this scrapbook page.  I did put some bows on but they just didn't look right so I took them off

Sketchbook 365 to use a layout by Wendy Mckee which is also in the June issue of  Scrap 365

When I received my birthday card from Bronwyne (my first one as a Granny) Michael had used three of the pictures with titles that read across them, happy birthday Granny, it's so cute!  I knew as soon as I saw them that they would make a good scrapbook page.

I'm going to use the yellow striped paper for my journalling but had to give it another title as well as the Flower Power.  I love the saying "Take time to smell the flowers" and felt that it would be ideal to use as with its slight modification lol  It was computer generated and printed onto Safmat (by Letraset) and each word cut out so that I could curve it rather than it being in a straight line

She's such a cutie!
The diecut edge above the photos is actually the waste from when I cut the borders which are underneath them

I don't think that she was impressed with the taste

I used some dome stickers for accent on the bottom of the page but it possibly needs something else too.  It looks a bit empty

Materials used

Layout design by Wendy Mckee
An assortment of papers from my stash including Boofle and the English Paper Company
Buttons, dome stickers and Flower Power sticker from stash
Safmat
Edgeabilities by Spellbinders

Creative Card Crew Dimension challenge

Here is my DT card for  The Creative Card Crew # 11 I can't believe how fast these challenges come around. Just as well they're not every week, I'd be spinning in circles lol

The challenge is to show some dimension on your card and, once again, we are sponsored by the wonderful Stamp Fairy

Whoops! a little bit wonky lol  This was a lovely image to colour and, for a change, I printed it onto linen effect card

For the dimension I used 3D foam pads to raise the image panel above the scalloped panel which I had coloured with a Promarker before die cutting it.  By doing that I always know that my cardstock is the right colour for the project.  With adding the background papers in triangles going over the joins with a pastel Promarker makes them look dimensional

The sentiment is also raised on 3d foam pads

Materials used

Image from the Stamp Fairy
Sentiment from LOTV
Promarkers
Papers from Hunkydory, many moons ago
Nestabilities square and scalloped square dies
Southfields snow white linen card

Crafty Creations #170

the challenge at Crafty Creations is a male birthday card

I'm also entering it into the Play Date Cafe Challenge #132 where the colour combo is black, white and a splash of mustard

I've made a few cards very similar to this with the car being the same colour as the recipients car.  I'll have to find someone with a mustard/yellow car to send it to lol

You can't really tell but I've glazed all the glass and the grill

I've used one of my new dies for the sentiment

Materials used

Stamp was a cover gift with a magazine
Memento ink pad
Promarkers
Papers from stash

Lots of layers on this card.  The two small panels where mounted onto white card before being adhered to the main card and the reindeer was cut out and mounted onto the circle mat with 3D foam pads

I added a pattern of 3 dots to the main background paper as it looked too flat

I added Glossy Accents to the bells on the collar for more dimension and definition

Bingo!

Over at Crafty Sentiments the challenge is bingo.  I chose the line at the top for my elements, paper piecing, patterned paper and glitter

I am also entering it in the I Love Promarkers challenge #117 which is an anything goes challenge this week

I love using this stamp, it must be one of my best buys. She can look so different when her dress is paper pieced as it here

I coloured the neck line, sash and pocket top with  a Promarker as they are too small to be cutting out from another paper.  I added glitter to the flowers in her hair and on the bag

I added the sentiment by using a die-cut

Scrap papers for the dress and bag
Papermania Colossal paper for the background
